Before I started I knew next to nothing about online play. I knew what micro was but never heard of macro, build order, 9 pool, rax, APM... anything. And I always clicked on the buttons to build stuff, apparently that is a huge foul if you want to play online. I went to many sites to try to find out what I needed. Most of the terminology I learned on youtube by watching commentary of games. The tactics I found on a site called teamliquid.net. (Still not 100% sure what they are... 90% think they are a starcraft team that plays competitively) They have a recommended threads link and one of the links is small auto library of !Day[9] podcast I found these the most useful for the level that I was at (after learning the terminology).
Then I signed up for ICCup (I say it "I C cup" I'm not sure if that is right). My user name is Ynot because, well why not =) I like it because it is my name backwards. So all that was left to do was to play, so, I played my first game last night. It was a disaster, I got totally owned.
It was ZvT on python (I'll upload map images as I play them) I tried to do a 9 pool and it was going ok but I must have tripped up somewhere because my pool was not done in time to get 3 eggs of zerglings. Then when I went to my opponents’ base I was stupid and sent them on auto attack. They got torn to pieces. But the time I realized only 3 were left out of the 8 I sent. I backed them off to wait for more forces. Mean while I had 500 minerals in the bank, I didn't know what to do with them, so I expanded hoping for more larva to spend more money. Then the Terran attacked with m&m (marines and medics) with a few firebats. I saw them coming because of the 3 zerlings I left to wait, so I burrowed my new forces at the entrance to my expansion. My expansion wasn't even done yet by the time they got there. But they walked right over my zerglings and I was able to unburrow them just in time to cut off the medics. So, I killed managed one of them and the second was very badly damaged. Then my zergling were ripped apart by the marines and firebats. At that point it was over. Soundly owned in my first game, nothing left to do but to pay again!
